Sports Massage for Horses
This may show itself when ridden as e.g. stiffness on one rein; inability to bend or flex through the back and neck; tilting of the head; taking a shortened stride; having an awkward canter gait; reluctance to take the correct lead; or in more dramatic cases bucking and other behavioural issues.
The purpose of Sports Massage for Horses
Equine Sports Massage aims to relieve the tension and spasms in the muscles so that the horse can once again have full range of movement. It is particularly effective in building strength, tone and suppleness into the muscles when combined with the other treatments offered at Kazia Equine - McTimoney Chiropractic, Kinesiology Taping and core strengthen exercises.
We will always include massage as a key part of a horse's rehabilitation programme, since regular treatments increase the blood flow to the muscles, encouraging repair to damaged tissues and preventing muscle wastage during the period of box rest or restricted work.
The most satisfying part of treating horses is when you see them licking, chewing or yawning during treatment. These are indications that the horse is really letting go of the tension in their body but also in their mind and you can see them truly relaxing.
